Can a store deny my purchase for condoms if I'm not a legal adult? (Age 18) ?

I'm 14 (turning 15 in November) and I live in North Carolina. Me and my girlfriend are thinking about having sex for the first time, but we want it to be safe. I have a BP gas station down the road I could just walk to, but i'm not sure about their condoms, because I have heard they are novelty. Not sure what that could mean, but it doesn't sound too good. There is also a Piggly Wiggly, so I am hoping they sell the Trojan Fire and Ice condoms. If not, I'd just get regular Trojans or Magnums. But the main thing I am wondering is, since I'm only almost 15, can any store deny my purchase of a condom? Because the way I see it, if you are afraid to walk in the store to buy a condom, then you shouldn't have sex at all.
