I cracked my tooth; do i wait for it to heal or pull it out?

tonight i bit down on a fork and heard a loud crack! i cracked one of my bottom teeth and it hurts really bad and it's wiggly like as if the base of one side broke off, i was wondering if it will harden in time or will i need to have it pulled out at the dentist and if so can they put a fake tooth to replace it?
