What are sea monkeys?

I bought some 2 days ago and theyve started to hatch. In the instructions they said that the little wiggly things are the sea monkeys. When I read this I expected they just meant the dust particles in the water, but tosay there are little orange wiggly things. What exactly are sea monkeys, they can't be alive, they came out of a sachet, so what are they?
